Thanks to everyone who came out for our second meeting last Saturday at Ryco Creative Sewing Center. We're really getting rolling now, and the ideas and inspiration are flowing. Spread the word by inviting friends to join our mailing list, or sending people to our blog. The more the merrier!
- Carole Ann
Our next meeting: Saturday, August 18th at 2pm
at Ryco Creative Sewing Center, 25 Carrington Street, Lincoln
On the agenda:
Show & tell - Bring a project to show to the group (in progress is fine)! If you have a project you're just not sure about - how to go about quilting, or are wondering how to choose binding fabric - bring it along to ask the group!
Quilting books/magazines swap - Ready to clear out some shelf space? Bring books or magazines to swap or lend out.
Christmas/wintertime mug rug challenge! - At our last meeting, we swapped christmas/wintertime fabric for making mug rugs*. At our August meeting, we'll bring our finished mug rugs and swap them with a "lucky dip" drawing. If you weren't at our last meeting, go ahead and use any christmas/wintertime fabric you have on hand - the more participation, the better! The challenge is to make it modern - use some solids, irregular patterns, negative space, or something else that you think makes it modern. Play around with it and see what you come up with!
Modern Fabric Shop Feature - Pat will show us some of the new modern fabrics coming in to the shop. Get ready to be inspired!
*What's a mug rug, you ask? A mug rug is bigger than a coaster but smaller than a placemat - the perfect size for a mug of tea and a little snack. There are no rules about dimmensions. Think of it as a very mini quilt - a quick and easy project that's a great chance to try something new and play a little. Check out our last blog post for some examples and tutorials.
We look forward to seeing you there!
