January 2016 Meeting Recap

Thank you for attending our January 2016 Meeting!

We had a great first meeting of the new year and welcomed many new faces to our group. We are happy to have you join us. You all have so many wonderful ideas and the enthusiasm was terrific. This year is going to be amazing! Here's what happened.....

Mighty Lucky Quilting Club

Today at 1:00 was our first meet up for the Lucky Spool challenge group. This month we learned about making bias tape, and using it as a design element in quilting. Members shared alternative ways of making the bias tape and placing it on their background fabric. Making and working with the bias tape seems to be a technique that people were unsure about at first, but are really enjoying it. Jill made this block (in the picture above) using bright, modern colors, and is contemplating turning this into a pillow!

For those of you that may not know, this is a monthly subscription club through a quilting website Lucky Spool. A popular quilt designer/teacher will teach a different concept (through PDF) for you to try each month of the year.  You can sign up for the year or monthly, and all instructions are emailed right to you! This group will meet monthly at 1:00 pm before the RIMQG meeting to discuss that month's challenge and share ideas. If you are a paid RIMQG member, you can join the FB Group (see our FB page for members). Jessica's bias tape project was inspired by
colorful bouncing balls.

Treasurer Report News

Our new Treasurer Jen Smith updated us on our finances during the meeting.
If you would like more information, please email RIMQG and we will be happy to get that to you.

Valentine's Day Fabric Postcard Swap!

Our last fabric postcard swap was a hit! We all had so much fun making fabric postcards and snail-mailing them out to our partners. So, we have decided to do another swap for Valentine's Day! Sign-ups were held and partners were selected. Postcards can be mailed your partner any time. If you couldn't make it to the meeting, don't worry! Please email Jenn Boyce and she will assign you a partner so you can participate in this fun swap. She can provide you with written directions if you have not made a fabric postcard before. They are super easy and fun to make!

Quarterly themes for 2016 were discussed,

and in our First Quarter we will be focusing on Color!

We will be viewing the MQG Webinar "Awaken Your Inner Color Genius" hosted by Carrie Bloomstone at our next meeting to begin our exploration on Color. In this Webinar,Carrie will discuss basic color theory and help us to find our own resonant palette. Color is highly personal and she teaches some tricks that can make it fun and easy! You wont want to miss it!!
